Heritage Lawns & Irrigation has been in the lawn care business since 1995. Through the years, we’ve learned a lot, not just about lawn care, but about customer care. We’ve learned what customers expect and we’ve always striven to not only meet their expectations, but to exceed them.
One of the best ways to learn about customer satisfaction is talking to customers who left another lawn care company because they weren’t happy. We created this breakdown of reasons customers leave their lawn care company, to let anyone displeased with their lawn care know they’re not alone – and there is a better option!
Reasons Homeowners Leave Their Lawn Care Company
If you’re already a Heritage customer, you probably already know about the services we offer. But, if you’re not a Heritage customer and you’re looking to find a new company, here are some questions to ask and things to expect from a professional. We’ve found that the reasons people leave are varied, but we have noticed some trends. Reasons for leaving mainly fall into three categories; poor results, poor service, or poor communication.
No one wants to keep paying for a lawn service when their lawn looks terrible. Whether it’s just not thickening up, has bare spots, disease, pests, or too many weeds, a bad lawn is a sure sign that it’s time to change.
While this seems like the most obvious reason, you’d be surprised how many people didn’t cite this as their main reason. In other words, the company was doing a decent job and their lawn looked good, but it was the other areas where they failed.
Some lawn care companies seem like they’re always trying to sell you something. Upselling can get seriously annoying. You feel like you’re being nickeled and dimed to death! Some companies even want to charge you for something that should be included in your lawn’s maintenance, like grub control.
When you’re not happy with your service, it’s time to make a change. If they don’t offer a guarantee, you have no recourse but to leave. That’s where we’ve gotten some of our new customers.
Unfortunately, sometimes it becomes clear that the company you hired is not professional and they really don’t know what they’re doing. Two guys and a truck do not constitute a professional lawn care company. Convenience also falls under the poor service umbrella. Can you pay your bill online? Can you call your lawn tech when you need to ask a question?

Communication is one area we hear complaints about the most. Some lawn care companies treat you like a stranger. They come and spray your lawn, but never talk to you. They send a different lawn care technician each time so you never get to build any kind of relationship with him. They don’t email you to let you know when your next treatment is, and they don’t send a follow-up email to let you know what they’ve done. You’re left in the dark.
If you’re looking for a new lawn care company, of course, we hope you choose Heritage Lawns & Irrigation. But, if you’re not sure, at least you’ll know what to look for and what questions to ask so you don’t get stuck with a dud!
