ECO-PRIDE, a new biologically based lawn treatment has environmental and economical benefits.
Olathe, KS –Heritage Lawns & Irrigation is proud to introduce ECO-PRIDE, a biologically based
approach of combining the best of chemistry, physics, biology, and microbiology with sound turf and
landscape management practices.
According to Wesley Ory, owner of Heritage Lawns in Olathe, KS and founder of ECO-PRIDE "Our
customers want an aesthetically pleasing lawn that is free of weeds and bugs. Now there is proof that
having a well managed healthy lawn helps our environment by trapping carbon dioxide and thereby
reducing our carbon footprint and lessening global warming."
A study performed by Dr. Ron Sahu, a consultant for environmental and energy issues, shows that
well managed lawns that are cut regularly at the appropriate height, fed with nutrients left by the grass
clippings and watered in a responsible way actively pull pollutants from the air. The report also
concludes that the healthier the lawn the larger the impact it will have on our environment. "In fact a
number of studies have shown that our 30 million acres of lawns in the United States are responsible
for removing 5% of our carbon dioxide" stated Ory.
A healthy lawn can also save you money. According to an economic value study conducted by the
Institute of Applied Agriculture at the University of Maryland, eight healthy lawn fronts have the
cooling effect of 70 tons of air-conditioning which is enough for 16 average homes.
According to Ory "The best way to get a healthy lawn is to focus on the soil rather than treat the
symptoms. For many years conventional lawn companies have been treating symptoms like spraying
for weeds, insects and diseases but ignoring the root cause of the problems in the soil. ECO-PRIDE
was developed to improve the soil while reducing the need for synthetic chemicals." said Ory. "This
combination of organic farming practices and sound turf management is what we refer to as the next
generation in lawn treatments."
