Duct tape repair

I know every sprinkler company in the city is busy now but there is no excuse for this kind of work. We ran across the proverbial “Duct Tape” repair this week. Supposedly repaired last summer by another service. It shows there is huge difference between a guy in a truck and professional irrigation co.  The other place we see this is the mowing/landscape/whatever company.  Jack of all trades master of none.

It’s always better to do the job once and do it right.

You never know what you’re going to find.  While trying to start up a sprinkler system we couldn’t get the backflow device to seal shut.  Upon opening and closer inspection we found this little guy.  (if you look close you can see a small toad on the left side of the cup)  How he got inside we don’t know, and he wasn’t harmed when we turned the water on.  When we turned him loose, shut everything back up  then the system sealed up good as new.

Oh no! Did I Winterize my Sprinkler System?!

When temperatures fall below 25 degrees at night, any water left in your sprinkler system can freeze, causing the pipes to burst.  Burst pipes can lead to other problems including flooded lawns, flooded basements, damage to landscaping, damage to neighbors lawn, and even costly repairs.

Winterize Your Sprinkler System News Story

 What happens if you forget to winterize your sprinkler system?  Well, if the winter was cold enough (and it usually is) the water that was left in the pipes will freeze and expand and many times, it will result in burst pipes.  The problem is that people don’t know it until they turn the system back on inthe spring.  Many times they end up with geysers in their yards.  (See the news story above of a manwho had just this problem).  If you have sprinkler system problems, call us for repairs.

It looks like we are going to get our first real cold spell of the season.  Did you remember to disconnect your garden hoses?  If left attached to your faucet the self draining feature of the faucet can’t operate and the potential for a frozen/broken water line goes way up.  If these freeze and break inside the house wall you can imagine the potential damage.  So the moral of the story is make sure you disconnect your garden hoses before we get a hard freeze.

Instead of just counting your blessings over your thanksgiving meal, make it a point to count your blessing once each day of the holiday weekend. Try not to count the same things twice and you will see how truly blessed you are.
